The CFO Group is unique because we marry the objectives of an efficient and effective finance department with traditional CPA services to provide a wide range of financial and accounting solutions to our clients.
How We Started
The CFO Group was founded in 2002 by Tanya McCaffery and Dan Allen. Tanya and Dan worked together in public accounting for several years in the audit department with Grant Thornton’s Reno, Nevada office. Both had the desire to help clients in a “roll-up-your-sleeves” way that was not possible in public accounting. Both being from the Reno area, Tanya and Dan had hundreds of contacts in the area and dozens of requests for help from local companies. Thus, The CFO Group began.
Initially, the plan was to be an outsourced CFO to client companies. This would allow Tanya and Dan to utilize their private industry experience and their backgrounds in public accounting. Tanya and Dan believed that the culture of our firm should be to interact proactively with clients and business owners and not just be the “necessary evil” inherent in certain accounting relationships. They quickly found that this approach worked.
As our firm began to work with clients and demand for services grew, it became clear that there were synergies in providing other services as well. We began to expand our tax services right away. Investments were made in technology and infrastructure to ensure that we were able to provide premium tax services including not just tax preparation but also tax planning and management.
Shortly after, we began to expand our assurance capabilities. Assurance services include audits, reviews and compilations of financial statements. This area of the firm has grown exponentially and we successfully underwent our initial peer review in 2007.
To date, The CFO Group has grown to include a total of fourteen consultants and staff. It is now comprised of four divisions - consulting, audit, tax and virtual accounting. Keeping in line with Tanya and Dan’s initial vision for the firm, our team is passionate about helping our clients succeed and we look forward to continued growth and success in the future!
Where We Are
The CFO Group is located in beautiful Caughlin Ranch in Reno, Nevada. Our consultants work with our clients both in our offices and at our client locations. When it is more efficient to do so, we also work remotely with client companies via online meeting applications created by Webex, a Cisco company.
How We Protect Your Information
The CFO Group takes client confidentiality very seriously. We store and process your personal information on our computers in the US, and we protect it by maintaining physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in compliance with applicable US federal and state regulations. We use computer safeguards such as firewalls and data encryption, we enforce physical access controls to our buildings and files, and we authorize access to personal information only for those employees who require it to fulfill their job responsibilities.
We create regular backups of client data that are rotated on a consistent daily and weekly basis and are also rotated offsite to guarantee that in the event of a natural or other disaster that client information is not lost or compromised.
